6th WEEK REFLECTION

Probably, this week’s class is the best, because we have been given the chance to explore and do hands on activity in a Micro Computer Based Laboratory or MBL. This is one of the strategies used in designing the teaching and learning process.

Each group was given the opportunity to use and explore MLB tools and also conduct a simple experiment. My group was assigned to use the Voltage Current Sensor. We conducted a simple experiment using battery cells and determine the voltage of different number of cells using the Voltage Current Sensor.

We have recorded the steps accordingly:

1. The sensor is being plugged in to the computer.
2. EZscreen or DataStudio is selected from the window or programme files.
3. The voltage leads is being connected to one battery. The red lead is connected to the positive of the battery while the black lead to the negative.

4. Choose “Table” from the list of items in Datastudio.

5. Click “Start”

6. The voltage and ampere of the battery is displayed on the screen.
7. The data is being recorded on a piece of paper.
8. Step 3 to 7 is being repeated with 2 and then 3 batteries.

After a long exploration, I can say that have gained a totally new experience and certainly I learned a lot. This is a completely new technology which presents new possibilities in teaching and learning. I have also discovered positive points about this technology:

a) Very accurate information

b) User friendly

c) Instant record and interpretation of data

d) Enhances manipulative skills

The only disadvantages of this technology are that it may cost high. Teachers need to very well train so that they can troubleshoot any problems. Science process skills are also less practice as it provides instant information just by clicking. However, if teacher can incorporate both traditional methods and technology together in Science lesson, this will not be a problem.

The experiences and knowledge I gained today are very invaluable. I must say that I have fun in doing the activities with my group members. Looking forward to share and present out finding next week. CHEERS!!
